Nothing But The Blood- Matt Redman

I’m back! My macbok pro was out of commission for awhile but i recently just got it fixed so hopefully i can get more vids up in 2011.

So here’s a non-hillsong song, ha ha. Heard this at church the other day, and i went home and wanted to play it, couldn’t find any tabs online and then i searched my own tab library- i forgot i had written it up awhile back. So since the tab is non-existent or hard to find online, thought i would post it here and make a lil vid for ya’all.

Nothing But the Blood- Matt Redman

Lyrics:

Your blood speaks a better word
Than all the empty claims I’ve heard upon this earth
Speaks righteousness for me
And stands in my defense
Jesus it’s Your blood

[Chorus]
What can wash away our sins?
What can make us whole again?
Nothing but the blood
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can wash us pure as snow?
Welcomed as the friends of God
Nothing but Your blood
Nothing but Your blood King Jesus

Your cross testifies in grace
Tells of the Father’s heart to make a way for us
Now boldly we approach
Not by earthly confidence
It’s only Your blood

[Chorus]

We thank You for the blood
We thank You for the blood

We praise You for the blood
We praise You for the blood

Nothing but Your blood
Nothing but Your blood King Jesus

Stever’s Commentary:

A simple, good song from Matt Redman’s Facedown album. A simple observation, but i start to think of cleaning agents, like bathroom cleaners and chemicals and stuff. I used to move from apartment to apartment a lot in college and a few years after graduation, and whenever you move out, you have to clean. Most times they charge you a lot no matter how well you clean the place, but this one time i wanted to really try hard and avoid that fee. And i had the hardest time cleaning the soap scum on the shower door. I tried several different brands, even tried making up my own solution from a bucket of oxyclean- yes i’m a sucker for TV infomercials. none of it worked. Until i discovered Kaboom! It worked so great, didn’t even need to scrub it. Just spray it on and leave it there till my next shower and it felt wonderful to see my shower door and window so transparent. And this song reminds me of that feeling, except better. Nothing can wash away the stain of my sin, nothing, except the blood of Jesus. A bit morbid, yes, but for those who understand, a wonderful, praiseworthy thing. And to me, that’s why this is a great praise song. Can good deeds wash away sin? Nope. Can apologies wash away sin? Nope. Can repentance wash away sin? Nope. That’s why “We praise You for the blood”.

Stever’s Commentary on giving commentary:

Certainly not for every song, but i think it really important tool to be able to talk about a song a little bit before playing it for the congregation. I think it really helps the congregation to re focus on what the song is all about. So many times we sing songs over and over again, the meaning can get a little lost in the melody and music and repetition. Giving a short semi-prepared, semi-spirit led blurb is something i try to do once per set to get people minds going before engaging them in worship.

***cry for help: does anyone know how to get these tabs to line up? in the editor i have to make them all crooked and go back and forth with the previews adjusting each dash to get them to line up, but in my notepad file it’s perfect.***

ok i’m on a 2-day streak whoooo! i realized i forgot how to play this song so i needed to get it down on tape to remind myself.

finally!

here’s delay settings and how the new videos are being made, and a glimpse of some of the other gear.

Ok I am back! i have relearned how to make the movies better now with my MOTU ultralite mk3 interface and iMovie. tell me what you think and enjoy!

ok this one will be another intermediate one, lots of good skills to practice here.i discovered how to use quicktime to record videos instead of photobooth. no more mirror image and sound for video problems i hope.

here’s the my EZ version of the tab, EZ meaning not 100% completely accurate but most of the way there. like maybe 95% of the way there.

You guys better like this one, it took me quite a few takes to get it down. This video shows some hammer ons and pulloffs in the shape of key of G. you can throw some of these hammer ons and pullofs into any song you’re playing in the G shape. you’ve also got some more finger muting and even some muting with the part of your left hand where your palm meets the finger. there’s also some semi-alternate picking and stuff. defenitely not for beginners. have fuuuun!

wow i am just cranking out the videos today.

here’s how to play octaves along with more left hand index finger muting as demonstrated by one of my favorite bands, Something LIke Silas and their song Spirit Waltz from their album Glimpses
